Hello, again

Kicking off a writing habit on engineering leadership, fractional CTO work, and the strange shape of small technical teams.

This is the first post on the new site. I’ve been meaning to write more for a while — about engineering, hiring, and the particular flavor of leadership that comes with being the only senior technical person in the room.

The plan is roughly:

  • Engineering leadership — what actually changes when you go from “best engineer on the team” to “person responsible for the team that ships.”
  • Fractional CTO mechanics — how engagements get scoped, what makes them work or fail, what to expect if you’ve never hired one.
  • SaaS architecture — opinions, mostly Laravel-flavored, on the boring decisions that compound.
